Huge congratulations from all of us at Autograph to our very own sound designer extraordinaire Nick Lidster, who collected another prestigious Olivier Award trophy last night.
In a glittering ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Nick was announced as the winner of this year’s Olivier Award for Best Sound Design for his work on the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Fiddler on the Roof.

With this nomination, Nick was one of a group of top designers whose achievements in theatre sound were recognised this year – the others being Christopher Shutt for Oedipus at The Old Vic, Thijs van Vuure for The Years at Almeida Theatre & Harold Pinter Theatre, and Koichi Yamamoto for Spirited Away at London Coliseum. Our heartfelt congratulations to every one of them.
Although nominated in 13 categories (equalling a record set by the musical Hamilton in 2018), Fiddler On The Roof won just three Olivier Awards: as well as Nick’s win for Best Sound Design, it also picked up the Awards for Best Musical Revival and Best Set Design (Tom Scutt).
This wonderful production returns later this summer to the Barbican Theatre, before embarking on a tour of the UK and Ireland.
Well done to all involved!
